FAQs

What specific skills will I develop through this program?

You'll develop practical tools for managing stress, anxiety, and difficult emotions. The program focuses on helping you recognize emotional triggers, develop healthier responses instead of defaulting to isolation or anger, master communication without aggression, set boundaries that others respect, and resolve conflicts constructively.

Is this therapy or coaching?

It’s a little of both. Jason uses the structure and goal orientation of coaching, combined with the reflection and use of narrative that is common in therapeutic practices.

What happens in a typical session?

Each session follows a similar format:

  • Review of what’s happened since the last session.

  • Identifying the issues that are most pressing to you at that moment.

  • Talking through your experiences and looking for meaning and patterns.

  • Agreeing on behaviour changes that you can try out between sessions.

  • Ending the session feeling motivated and hopeful of positive change.

There is no secret sauce here; you just need a willingness to do the work.

How long is each session and how often do we meet?

Each session is 45 minutes in length. The best results occur when you meet with Jason on a regular day and time weekly, at least in the beginning. The meeting schedule can be adjusted based on your needs and progress toward your goals.

Are the sessions virtual or in-person?

Most sessions with Jason are virtual, via Google Meet (no software required), and you can join the meeting from any device, including your smartphone.

In-person sessions can be scheduled and require a commitment of 10 meetings within a 12-week period.

Are the sessions confidential?

Everything that you discuss with Jason is confidential. The details of our discussions will not be shared with a third party unless it is compelled by a court order. Digital notes are stored according to PIPEDA privacy guidelines (read more here) and are available to the client upon request.

Jason does share anonymized details of certain cases with his clinical supervisor in order to better treat each client.

Do you use AI?

Yes! Jason uses a Canadian-based medical transcription service called Heidi (learn more here). After each session, the transcription software drafts case notes, which are then reviewed by Jason before being securely retained for future recall.

Using a virtual transcription service allows Jason to be more present in each session with you, without having to take focus away to make extensive notes.

What are the fees and are they covered by insurance?

Each 45-minute session is billed at $150, payable via credit card. Currently, Jason’s services are not covered by third-party insurance. Coaching services may be considered a business expense and might be reimbursable (please confirm with your organization).
